Donations Policy

CAPLD particularly collects art created by local artists and historic items of relevant interest to residents of the Library District, but may collect works and historic items outside of that scope.

Items of historic interest may include, but not limited to:

  • Photographs
  • Letters, journals and other handwritten materials
  • Objects, curios and collectables
  • Newspapers
  • Genealogical related materials
  • Chatham area provenance items

Donated materials such as books, magazines, audio/visual materials, etc. which are out-of-date, unneeded duplicates, or in a format unsuitable for library use, may be donated to another library or given to the Friends of the Chatham Area Public Library District for book sales.

When donated material is added to the Library's collection, the classification and display of the material is solely at the discretion of the Library Staff.  The donor may not restrict access to, nor use of donated materials.

Final responsibility for acceptance of a work of art resides with the Board of Library Trustees.
